Fare Evasion Survey Results for October 2012

Fare evasion significantly dropped in October 2012 on Melbourne’s trams to 10.5 per cent, the lowest since early 2008, and on Melbourne’s trains to 8.8 per cent, down from 11.7 per cent in May 2012.

The rate of fare evasion on Melbourne’s trams decreased from 20.3 per cent in May 2011 to 10.5 per cent in October 2012.

Statement from Public Transport Victoria CEO Ian Dobbs regarding Ombudsman report

Public Transport Victoria has accepted all of the recommendations of the Ombudsman's report which are directed at PTV either in full or in-principle.

While the events described in the Ombudsman's report took place prior to the establishment of PTV, we accept his recommendations and I have assured the Ombudsman that we will work diligently to ensure that all rail infrastructure and operating practices are properly overseen by PTV moving forwards.

Catch public transport to the AFL Grand Final

Football fans are encouraged to catch public transport to the AFL Grand Final with a sell-out crowd expected to make their way to the MCG on Saturday 29 September.

In addition to the normal Saturday timetable, dozens of extra trains and trams are running to get fans to the ground in time for the pre-game entertainment and back home again.

Public Transport Victoria announces latest patronage results

Patronage on Melbourne’s public transport increased by 3.4 per cent in the past year with an extra 19 million trips made by passengers, according to figures released today by Public Transport Victoria.

These latest figures show some 537 million public transport trips made in Melbourne in the past year, including 222 million trips on trains, nearly 192 million on trams and 123 million on buses.

Public Transport Victoria will trial a new way to get football fans home faster from the MCG this weekend.

The trial is expected to improve the flow of passengers at Richmond Station onto platforms and train services home.

SmartBus stops along McDonalds Road in Epping reopen

SmartBus Route 901 has this week resumed its normal route along McDonalds Road in Epping after rock attacks caused the diversion of the route and closure of several bus stops.

Since early July, SmartBus Route 901 has been running express from Epping station to South Morang Station, via Dalton Road, Childs Road, Morang Drive and Civic Drive, due to safety concerns along McDonalds Road. In recent weeks, the diversion has been in place at night time only.

New travelling to university guides now available

Public Transport Victoria is making travel to university easy for students across Victoria with the launch of 12 new travelling to university campus specific guides.

These online guides, available from ptv.vic.gov.au, provide students with information on the closest train station, tram stop or bus route to campus, as well as information on student concessions, ticketing, journey planning, public transport mobile apps and a map.
