Restoring W-Class trams
Cost: $8 million
Project description
The 2011-12 State Budget committed $8 million to restoring Melbourne's historic W-Class trams.
The Bendigo Trust will play an important role in the ongoing maintenance of the W-Class tram fleet.
The restored trams will undergo a limited return to service in activity areas and on tourist routes. Options under consideration include:
- the Central Business District
- St Kilda, South Melbourne
- Chapel Street, South Yarra, Prahran and Armadale
- Fitzroy, Brunswick and Coburg.
Routes will be determined in consultation with Yarra Trams, the National Trust and Melbourne and local councils.
